You Shipped an AI Feature. Your Database Felt It.
When you add AI to your app, the data profile changes overnight. Every prompt, response, and user interaction becomes a timestamped event. That's not your app's usual row count.
Vanilla Postgres handles it until it doesn't. Query times creep up. Dashboard refreshes slow down. You start reaching for a second database or a data pipeline to offload the load.
TimescaleDB extends Postgres for exactly this. It doesn't replace what's working. It makes Postgres stay fast as AI-generated data piles up.
Hypertables partition your data automatically as volume grows. Hypercore compression cuts storage 10x. Continuous aggregates keep your dashboards live without re-querying everything. No pipeline. No second database. No migration.
Same Postgres. Same SQL. Just built to handle what AI features actually generate.
Good morning, Edmonton and surrounding areas! Happy Tuesday, neighbours!
The CUSMA trade deadline lands tomorrow with no deal in sight. Closer to home, 1,500 campers are stranded in Kananaskis after flooding cut off the roads, Alberta's separatists just won a significant court round, and internal documents reveal a worrying plan for Edmonton addiction treatment sites. Plus Canada faces Morocco on July 4. Big morning. Grab your coffee ☕

⛺ Kananaskis Is on Emergency Alert and 1,500 Campers Cannot Get Out
Why are 1,500 people stranded in Kananaskis Country and when will roads reopen?
Alberta Parks declared a state of local emergency in Kananaskis Country Monday after flooding cut off road access to multiple campgrounds, leaving more than 1,500 people with no way out.
Highway 40 south of Canmore is closed, the Evan Thomas Bridge cannot be crossed, and Canmore itself is under an evacuation alert after 131mm of rain fell in a single watershed overnight.
William Watson Lodge and Peter Lougheed Discovery Centre are open as emergency shelters, and officials hoped to restore at least one exit route by late Monday evening.
Stay off the roads into Kananaskis until officials confirm conditions are safe again.
💊 Edmonton Addiction Centres Could Be Converted for Forced Treatment This Fall
Which Edmonton facilities are being considered for Alberta's involuntary addiction treatment program?
Internal documents from Recovery Alberta show that Henwood Treatment Centre and the Addiction Recovery Centre at Alberta Hospital Edmonton are being considered as interim sites for the province's involuntary addiction treatment program starting as early as this fall.
Converting these facilities would require closing existing voluntary programs, a move critics call a net loss in an already strained system, since the two new permanent facilities in Edmonton and Calgary will not be ready until 2030.
The province previously stated voluntary treatment beds at community sites would not be used for forced treatment, a commitment advocates say these documents directly contradict.
This one is worth watching closely as more details come forward in the coming days.
⚖️ Alberta Separatists Win a Court Round on the Independence Petition
What did the Alberta Court of Appeal rule Monday on the Stay Free Alberta referendum petition?
An Alberta Court of Appeal judge ruled Monday that Elections Alberta can begin verifying the nearly 302,000 signatures on the Stay Free Alberta petition, overturning an earlier court decision that had quashed it before any names could be counted.
Justice Alice Woolley's decision sets aside the previous ruling that found the government had a duty to consult First Nations first, though it remains unclear how this affects Premier Smith's own October 19 referendum question.
The verified signature count will now determine whether the petition officially qualifies, and both separatist groups and First Nations leaders are expected to respond quickly.
A significant legal turn in a story that is still very much unfolding heading into the fall.
One Scratchpad Per Task. Deleted When Done.
Your agents share a staging database. One bad migration, and every downstream task reads broken data.
ghost gives each task its own isolated Postgres database. Fork in 58ms. A scratchpad that disappears when the job is done. No shared state. No cleanup.

🤝 The CUSMA Clock Hits Zero Tomorrow and No Deal Is in Sight
What happens when the CUSMA trade deadline arrives July 1 with negotiations still unfinished?
July 1 is the formal deadline for Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to extend CUSMA for 16 years, and with no official Canada-U.S. negotiations yet underway, the deal is heading into a decade of annual reviews instead of a full extension.
Canada and Mexico both want the 16-year extension, but Trump has said he would prefer to see CUSMA terminated, and a former Canadian trade chief confirmed Monday that a broader tariff deal is unlikely before the U.S. midterm elections.
The pact stays in place under annual reviews for now, but any country can withdraw with six months notice, which keeps Alberta beef, energy and agricultural exports exposed to ongoing uncertainty well into next year.
The deadline is tomorrow. Here is what you need to know before it hits.
⚽ It Is Canada vs Morocco. July 4. Houston. Round of 16.
Who will Canada face in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 and when is the match?
It is confirmed: Canada faces Morocco in Houston on July 4 in their first ever Round of 16 match in FIFA World Cup history, after Sunday's 1-0 win over South Africa.
Morocco sits sixth in FIFA world rankings, making this Canada's toughest test yet, and ICE District Fan Park has been the heart of Edmonton's watch party scene throughout the entire tournament.
Canada has already surpassed every World Cup result in the country's history and July 4 is shaping up to be the biggest watch party night Edmonton has seen all summer.
Get your plans sorted early. This one is going to be massive.

🔫 Six People Killed at a Mother and Baby Shelter in Germany
What happened at the shelter in Stade, Germany, and what do authorities know so far?
A gunman opened fire Monday at a shelter for pregnant women and young mothers in Stade, about 50 kilometres west of Hamburg, killing six people in one of the most shocking mass shootings Germany has seen in years.
All six victims were adults, with four women and one man dying at the scene and a sixth victim passing later in hospital, while three suspects including the shooter were detained.
German investigators are still working to establish a motive, and authorities note the building specifically housed pregnant women and mothers with newborn children.
A devastating day in a small German city and a reminder of how quickly everything can change.
🇮🇷 US and Iran Head to Qatar for Talks After a Weekend of Strikes
What happened between the US and Iran over the weekend and where do negotiations stand now?
Trump announced Monday that US and Iranian diplomats will meet in Qatar for further negotiations after both sides exchanged military strikes over the weekend, with Iran not yet confirming whether it will show up.
Analysts are describing a fragile new normal where periodic flareups happen within the broader ceasefire framework, while the 60-day window to finalize a permanent deal from the June MOU signing continues to run down.
Alberta's energy sector is watching closely because Brent crude prices have been tracking this conflict directly, and any breakdown in Qatar could push oil prices higher again within days.
The clock is running and the world is watching to see if both sides actually show up in Qatar.
Postgres Didn't Fail You. Your Architecture Did.
Adding a second database was supposed to fix things. Now you manage sync, drift, and pipelines on top of queries that are still slow.
TimescaleDB extends Postgres instead. Hypertables, 95% compression, continuous aggregates. One database. No pipeline.

TRIVIA TUESDAY 🧠
Here is something worth knowing the day before Canada Day.
Canada did not call its own birthday Canada Day until 1983. For over 100 years, July 1 was officially called Dominion Day, a name that dated back to Confederation in 1867. The holiday was renamed Canada Day by Parliament on July 9, 1982, but the vote passed with only 13 MPs present out of 282 seats. It is one of the most lightly attended votes in Canadian parliamentary history and it produced one of the most lasting changes to the national calendar.
Happy almost Canada Day, neighbours. Hit reply and tell me your favourite way to celebrate July 1.
