The Architecture Behind AI-Native Revenue Automation

In our new white paper, The Architecture Behind AI-Native Revenue Automation, Tabs CTO Deepak Bapat breaks down what it actually takes to apply AI to revenue workflows without breaking the books.

You’ll learn why probabilistic reasoning isn’t enough for finance, how Tabs pairs LLMs with deterministic logic, and why a unified Commercial Graph is the foundation for scalable, audit-ready automation. From contract interpretation to cash application, this paper goes deep on where AI belongs—and where it absolutely doesn’t.

If you’re evaluating AI for billing, collections, or revenue operations, this is the architecture perspective most vendors won’t show you.

Happy Friday, neighbour!

Today's issue has a bit of everything, a story from St. Albert that has our community asking hard questions, a Leduc County program that is about to make one mom's day in the most beautiful way, and some big news from south of the border and halfway around the world. Oh, and since Mother's Day is right around the corner, we have a little something in today's Story Corner just for the moms in your life.

Grab your coffee. Let's get into it.

St. Albert Hate Crime Leaves Muslim Family Shaken

A Muslim man was punched unconscious in St. Albert last week while his wife sat in the car and watched, in what RCMP are now treating as a hate motivated assault.

  • The victim was followed home from a meeting at the Muslim Association of St. Albert on May 1 when a man in a Subaru cut him off, got out and attacked him with racial slurs and threats to kill him

  • A 40-year-old St. Albert man was arrested the same day and released on conditions; he appears in Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on June 8

  • No charges have been laid yet as the case is currently before an Alberta Crown prosecutor

Our community is better than this. If you witnessed anything near Poirier Avenue and Parkwood Drive around 2:36 p.m. on May 1, RCMP want to hear from you at 780-458-4300.

Alberta Doctors Are Sounding the Alarm on Bill 29

Physicians across the province are warning that a new provincial bill could quietly cost taxpayers over $1 million a year while quietly pushing Alberta toward a care system where your income determines your speed.

  • Bill 29 would allow patients to refer themselves directly to private diagnostic testing without going through a doctor first

  • Doctors say this will drive up unnecessary testing, pull patients away from the public system and cost far more than anyone is admitting

  • Critics say it is privatization through the back door, and they are not holding back

This is your health system. Do you think patients should be able to book their own private tests?

Three Investigations and Counting: The Centurion Project Will Not Go Away

Alberta's privacy commissioner has now launched a third investigation into the massive voter data leak tied to a separatist group, and the number of people caught up in this mess keeps growing.

  • Nearly three million Albertans had their names and addresses posted in an online database run by a group called the Centurion Project

  • More than 550 people accessed that database, and two UCP members reportedly attended the group's virtual meetings

  • RCMP, Elections Alberta and now the Information and Privacy Commissioner are all independently investigating

Elections Alberta has already issued over 568 cease and desist letters. Is your information in that database? You deserve to know.

💐 Know a Mom Who Deserves a Full Makeover This Mother's Day?

A Leduc County program is giving one deserving mom in the area a complete transformation, fully funded by local businesses and community donations, and there is still time to get a name in.

  • Where My Love Grows selects one mom from the Leduc County area (including Leduc, Beaumont, Devon, Calmar and Thorsby) for a full makeover covering everything from her home to her look

  • The chosen mom pays absolutely nothing; every bit of it is covered through local generosity

  • You can even nominate yourself, because sometimes asking for help is the hardest and bravest thing a person can do

Know someone who gives everything and never asks for anything back? She is exactly who this was made for.

A Cruise Ship, a Deadly Virus and Three Canadians Isolating at Home

Three Canadians are isolating at home after a hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship left eight people infected and three people dead around the world.

  • Two Canadians were passengers on the MV Hondius, which stopped at the remote South Atlantic island of St. Helena; a third Canadian from Quebec was on the return flight as a precaution after possible contact with someone infected

  • All three are asymptomatic so far and are being monitored daily by public health officials

  • The Andes strain of hantavirus is the only form known to pass between humans, and the monitoring period is expected to last about 30 days

Not in the clear yet, but no signs of illness so far. Public health is watching closely.

Iran and the US Are Closer to a Deal Than They Have Been in 70 Days

After 70 days of war, airstrikes and confrontations in the Strait of Hormuz, the United States and Iran are reportedly down to a single page that could end it all.

  • US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are negotiating a 14-point document that would declare the war over and start a 30-day window for a fuller agreement on Iran's nuclear program and US sanctions

  • A ceasefire is technically in place, though both sides have continued to trade strikes

  • President Trump told reporters Thursday that a deal "might not happen, but it could happen any day"

Alberta's oil sector is watching every word of this. A real deal changes the global price picture fast.

Trump's 10% Global Tariffs Just Got Thrown Out in Court

A US federal court has ruled that the 10% global tariffs President Trump imposed after his Supreme Court loss are also illegal, and Canada is paying close attention.

  • A three-judge panel of the Court of International Trade in New York found the tariffs exceeded presidential authority after small businesses launched a legal challenge

  • This follows a February Supreme Court ruling that already struck down the IEEPA tariffs that had been hitting Canadian goods hard

  • Canadian businesses that paid tariffs on certain goods between February 2025 and February 2026 may now be eligible for refunds

The trade war is not over, but the legal ground keeps shifting under it.

STORY CORNER 📖

For the Moms Who Do It Quietly

There is a woman in your life who has never once asked to be celebrated.

She remembered everyone's birthday but her own. She stayed up late so you could sleep in. She drove through the rain and said it was no trouble at all. She turned ordinary Tuesday nights into something worth remembering.

This Sunday is her day. Not because a calendar told us so, but because she earned it every single day she chose the people she loves over everything easier.

Tell her. Call her. Show up.

Happy Mother's Day from all of us at The Urban Brief Edmonton and Surrounding Areas. 💛
