Who is representing our area on the next space station crew?
Joshua Kutryk, who grew up in Fort Saskatchewan, is getting ready for a six month stay on the International Space Station as part of NASA's SpaceX Crew 13 mission.
The mission includes a Canadian led study on how space travel and microgravity affect human health.
Launch is set for September 12 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

🏒 Hlinka Gretzky Cup Opens at Rogers Place Tonight
What is bringing the world's best young hockey players to town?
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup opens today at Rogers Place, with Canada facing off against Switzerland at 5pm in the first game of an eight team, under 18 showcase.
The tournament runs through August 8 in partnership with Hockey Alberta and the City of Edmonton.
Group A features Canada, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland, with Czechia, Finland, Germany and the United States rounding out Group B.

St. Catharines and the Town of Lincoln in Ontario both declared states of emergency today after back to back storms dropped more than 140mm of rain in under a week.
Thousands of homes have flooded for the second time in days, with the mayor calling it a hurricane's worth of rain.
Local officials are asking the provincial and federal governments for disaster relief support.

🔥 B.C.'s Bradley Creek Wildfire Forces Thousands to Flee
What is happening near Okanagan Lake?
The Bradley Creek wildfire more than doubled in size over the weekend, forcing new evacuation orders across communities at the north end of Okanagan Lake.
Winds gusting to 115 km/h fanned the flames, and officials have confirmed structures lost.
Evacuation orders now cover the Okanagan Indian Band, Spallumcheen and Splatsin First Nation.

🏖️ Ukrainian Drone Strike Kills Seven on a Russian Beach
What happened at the Black Sea resort of Gelendzhik?
At least seven people, including three children, were killed when a Ukrainian drone came down on a crowded beach near the Russian resort town of Gelendzhik.
Around 40 more people were injured, with local officials calling it one of the deadliest incidents in recent weeks.
It remains unclear whether the drone was shot down or crashed on its own.

President Trump says talks to wind down the Iran conflict begin this afternoon, after he held off on threatened strikes over the weekend.
The talks aim to revive traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a route critical to global oil and gas shipping.
Iran's foreign ministry disputes that direct US talks are happening, saying it is negotiating with Oman instead.
Cautious optimism this morning, though the two sides are not telling the same story yet.
