How do I get the $100 Alberta energy rebate in 2026?
Premier Danielle Smith confirmed this week that nearly 3.4 million Albertans will receive a $100 one-time energy rebate, and applications open July 1.
Payments arrive within two weeks of applying online; you must be 18 or older and have filed your 2025 tax return
Household income must be $225,000 or less to qualify
The rebate was triggered by the Iran conflict driving fuel prices up and activating Alberta's quarterly energy relief program
Mark July 1 in your calendar right now. This one does not come looking for you.

The 14-year-old boys face charges of making and possessing child sexual exploitation material plus voyeurism; the school is not being named to protect the victims
This is Alberta's second school-related AI exploitation case after a Calgary student was charged in December 2025; investigators say the Edmonton case remains ongoing

The Premier's Aide Just Told First Nations Chiefs to "Fix Their Communities"
What did Premier Smith's aide say to First Nations chiefs?
Premier Danielle Smith's executive director Bruce McAllister posted a social media message Thursday telling First Nations chiefs to stop their treason accusations and look inward instead.
The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs had just asked RCMP to investigate Smith for treason over the October 19 referendum
McAllister described reserves as entrenched in "poverty, drugs and violence" and told chiefs to fix that before making accusations
This is the same aide who previously had to apologize for telling a teenager his parents should spank him at a public meeting; Smith herself told the chiefs to "check themselves" a day earlier
Treaty 7 First Nations have reserved comment. Where do you think this goes from here?

Trump and Iran Signed a Peace Deal at the G7. The Strait Is Opening. Alberta Is Watching.
Did the US and Iran sign a peace deal, and how does it affect Alberta?
President Trump and Iranian President Pezeshkian signed a memorandum of understanding this week to formally end the US-Iran war, and the ripple effects reached Alberta almost immediately.
Key terms: the Strait of Hormuz will be cleared and reopened within 30 days, Iran reaffirms it will not develop nuclear weapons, and US sanctions begin a phased removal over 12 months
Global oil prices dropped more than 4 percent within hours of the announcement as markets priced in returning Iranian supply
Alberta's energy sector is watching closely, lower oil prices mean lower royalty revenues and potential pressure on provincial spending
Peace in the Middle East is genuinely good news. The impact on Alberta's oil revenues is a conversation this province needs to have.

STORY CORNER 📖📖
A reader from Sherwood Park wrote in about what happened at her local sports bar Thursday night.
She had gone in alone, just to watch the game on her own. The bar was full but not rowdy, people settled into their seats, drinks in hand, the kind of quiet anticipation you feel when something big might actually happen but you are too Canadian to say it out loud.
Then Canada scored the first goal.
She said the place absolutely lost it. A man at the next table who had not said a single word to anyone all night stood straight up out of his chair, arms in the air, yelling something nobody could quite make out but everyone understood perfectly. An older couple near the back were hugging each other so tight it looked like they might not let go. Two women a few seats over burst into tears, not sad tears, the kind that show up when something you stopped letting yourself hope for suddenly just happens. The bartender put down what she was doing, walked out from behind the bar to the middle of the floor, and just stood there with her hands on her head, laughing. Nobody was a stranger anymore. Everyone was looking at everyone else with the same wide eyes, the same thought written across every face: did that just happen? Did we really just do that?
By the time Jonathan David completed his hat trick and the scoreboard read 6 to 0, she was on her feet with a table full of people she had never met, every single one of them a Canadian who had waited their entire lives to see that moment.
"I didn't know anyone when I sat down," she wrote. "By the end of the game I had three new friends and a plan to watch the next match together."
Canada has been to a lot of games over the years. Thursday night was different. And Edmonton felt it, right here at home.
