Good morning, Edmonton and surrounding areas! Happy Thursday! ☀️
It is shaping up to be a warm one out there today, high near 30C, so plan accordingly. In this issue, the Yellowhead floods again, Sturgeon County pushes back on that new data centre, and Argentina fights its way into the World Cup final.

Yellowhead Trail Floods Again, Second Time in a Week
Did Yellowhead Trail flood again this week?
An early morning storm Wednesday flooded underpasses along Yellowhead Trail between 121 Street and 156 Street, the second time in a week the freeway has gone under.
Traffic signals also went down at a few intersections including St. Albert Trail and 128 Avenue.
Police diverted traffic and asked drivers to find alternate routes while crews cleared debris.
Give yourself extra time out there this morning.
Sturgeon County Residents Push Back on the Meta Data Centre
Were Sturgeon County residents consulted on the Meta data centre?
Residents living near the planned thirteen billion dollar Meta data centre east of Gibbons say they were not properly consulted before the announcement.
Concerns range from electricity prices to water use to strain on the power grid.
Some residents say they simply want open house forums to explain what is actually going in their backyard.
Worth watching as this project moves forward.

Two More Dutch Elm Disease Cases Confirmed in Edmonton
Has Dutch elm disease spread further in Edmonton?
The City confirmed two more elm trees have tested positive for Dutch elm disease, one in Northmount and one in Rossdale, the eighth and ninth cases since it first showed up here in 2024.
Both trees were already in decline and have been removed as part of the containment plan.
Edmonton's urban forest includes roughly 90,000 elm trees, about one in every five boulevard and open space trees.

How bad is the Ebola outbreak in Congo right now?
The World Health Organization says eighty percent of new Ebola cases in eastern Congo are coming from unknown chains of transmission, with deaths now past 700.
