Two tornadoes tore through an Alberta campground, Capital Line riders are in for a bumpy weekend starting tonight, and Elections Alberta is chasing down a fake website using its name. Expect a mix of sun and cloud today with a high near 27C, so the umbrella might get one more outing. Stick around today too, we have a Local Love Spotlight business to introduce you to. Grab your coffee and let's get into it ☕

Two Tornadoes Rip Through an Alberta Campground
What happened at Dillberry Lake Wednesday night?
Two tornadoes touched down in east central Alberta Wednesday night, sending three campers to hospital and forcing an evacuation at Dillberry Lake Provincial Park.
The funnel cloud flipped campers and blew out truck windows within minutes according to witnesses on scene.
It is part of an unusually busy tornado season across the Prairies, the busiest since the 1980s.
Storm season is clearly not done with us yet, keep an eye on the sky this weekend.
A Fake Elections Alberta Website Is Making Up Voter Data
What is the spoof site actually doing?
Elections Alberta is warning residents about a fake website mimicking its real address that generates completely fictitious names, phone numbers and voter ID numbers.
The Chief Electoral Officer says it looks like a deliberate attempt to undermine public trust in Alberta elections.
The office cannot take the site down itself and has called in cybersecurity and enforcement agencies.
If something online claims to be Elections Alberta, double check before you trust it.
Capital Line Riders, Plan Around This Weekend
What is happening on the Capital Line starting tonight?
Capital Line trains switch to a single track between Churchill and Clareview starting at 8 PM tonight, then the line closes completely for replacement buses on Saturday and Sunday.
Buses run every 7 to 8 minutes until 7 PM and every 10 minutes after that on both weekend days.
Regular service returns Monday except for one more single track stretch that day.
Build in extra time if you are heading downtown for the Art Walk this weekend.
Whyte Ave Scramble Crosswalks Get Another Summer
Why is the crosswalk redesign on hold?
The city has pushed back its plan to convert the three Whyte Avenue scramble crosswalks to traditional ones, giving itself more room to coordinate with construction and festival season.
The redesign at 105 Street, Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail was meant to start this summer and speed up bus service.
The new target is 2027, with a longer construction tender expected to bring better contractor pricing.
Keep doing the scramble a little longer, Whyte Ave.

Canada's Wildfire Season Is Running Milder Than Last Year
How bad is wildfire season so far?
The federal government's July wildfire update counts 796 active fires and 1.4 million hectares burned this season, well below the pace of last year.
Fire danger is forecast as low to moderate across most of western Canada thanks to recent rain.
Ottawa is putting 1.25 million dollars toward wildfire preparedness projects, including several with Metis Nations.
A rare bit of good news on the fire front, knock on wood.

Iran Hits Back at Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar
What escalated overnight?
Follow up to yesterday's issue. The US struck roughly 90 targets across Iran for a second night, and Tehran fired back at American allied forces in Bahrain, Kuwait and now Qatar too.
Sirens sounded three times in Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet, while Kuwait shot down multiple missiles and drones.
The exchange is testing what is left of the ceasefire Trump declared over yesterday.
Every escalation here keeps showing up at the pumps back home.
