Good morning, Edmonton.
A mix of sun and clouds today with a high of 13°C, so not a bad Sunday to get outside before a slight chance of showers rolls in by evening. We have a packed issue this week from a story that will genuinely make you stop and think about Edmonton's emergency system, to some welcome good news for Canadian workers. Grab your coffee, it is a good one.💛

An Edmonton man called 911 while blood soaked through his towels from a burst knee surgery wound, and was told the ambulance could be six hours away, so he took a cab.
Bruce Tuchsen's partner wrapped his knee and they cabbed to the hospital, where he went into emergency surgery the following morning.
Alberta has been diverting non-emergent 911 calls to taxis since December 2022, ALTA Paramedic Health logged 65 taxi transports in just the past seven days.
If you want the full picture on how ambulance offloading is playing out across the province, this one is worth your time.
Alberta and BC RCMP detachments are quietly using an AI tool to write police reports covering everything from traffic tickets to serious crimes, and not a single report has been tested in court yet.
The tool, called Draft One by Axon, converts body camera audio into written reports powered by the same model behind ChatGPT, with officers required to change at least 10 per cent of what the AI produces.
Legal experts are raising disclosure and accuracy concerns, and the pilot runs until August when RCMP will decide whether to make it permanent.
The full story has everything you need to know about what this could mean for criminal cases in Alberta.

Canada added 87,800 jobs in May, shattering analyst expectations of just 10,000, the biggest monthly gain since December 2024.
Full-time employment climbed by 154,000 and the unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 per cent from 6.9 per cent, with Alberta among the provinces recording gains.
The rebound follows a net loss of 112,000 jobs across the first four months of 2026, making May a genuine turning point.

Canada has temporarily blocked livestock from Texas after a flesh-eating parasite called the New World screwworm was confirmed on a Texas ranch, the first US case since 1966.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is now stopping horses and other livestock from entering Canada if they have been in Texas within the past 21 days, with Alberta cattle producers watching closely.
The larvae feed on living tissue and can be fatal if untreated, and the fly thrives in warm conditions, meaning an Alberta summer is within its range.
Global News has the full breakdown of what this means for Canadian livestock and how Texas is responding.

Overnight between June 5 and 6, Iran launched seven ballistic missiles and drones at US military positions in Bahrain and Kuwait, the US intercepted them and then struck Iranian radar and surveillance sites in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran condemned the counterstrikes as a ceasefire violation, and Global News Washington correspondent Reggie Cecchini says peace negotiations are now at a complete standstill, with Iran's nuclear program the biggest sticking point.
Energy analysts warn continued instability in the Strait of Hormuz keeps upward pressure on global oil prices, with direct consequences for Alberta royalty revenue and Canadian consumers.
The full story has the latest on where things stand and what it could mean for oil prices heading into the week.

Alberta is one of the only places in the world that is officially rat-free, and has been since 1950. The province runs a full-time rat patrol along its eastern border with Saskatchewan, it is actually illegal to own a pet rat here, and if you spot one you are legally required to report it. A whole Canadian province with no rats. Meanwhile the rest of the world is just out here sharing cities with them. 🐀
