The Post-Workout Recovery Secret You’re Sleeping On

You’ve dialed in your workouts, nutrition, and hydration. But if progress still feels slow, there’s one recovery factor often overlooked: sleep.

Muscles repair and rebuild while you sleep. Less sleep means less time to recover.

If getting enough rest is a challenge, CBDistillery offers targeted support your sleep solutions.

Their gummies and tinctures combine non-intoxicating CBD with CBN, a cannabinoid commonly used to promote better sleep.

In a 2021 CBDistillery study, participants reported sleeping longer on average after using CBD and CBN together.

Happy long weekend, Edmonton.

This Sunday issue has a mix that is hard to put down. There is a story that should make all of us angry, one that will make you want to take a drive, and one that will have you refreshing your bank account before you finish your coffee. Pull up a chair. We have six stories worth your time this Victoria Day weekend.💛

Another Man Has Died Waiting at a Major Edmonton Hospital

Our ER system has claimed another life and the fix that was promised months ago still is not in place.

  • A man arrived at Edmonton's Royal Alexandra Hospital on May 8 and died hours later in a waiting room without receiving care.

  • AMA president Dr. Brian Wirzba says the physician triage program the province committed to after Prashant Sreekumar's death in December is still not running.

  • Alberta Health Services says it is investigating but cannot share details due to privacy.

How many people have to die before this actually gets fixed?

One Year After the Fire, the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village Is Open Again

If you are looking for something meaningful to do this long weekend, this one is worth the drive.

  • The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village east of Edmonton in Lamont County reopened Saturday with a temporary visitor centre, one year after an April 2025 fire destroyed the original building and thousands of irreplaceable artifacts.

  • The historic buildings on the grounds survived the fire, and around 1,500 students visited during fall and winter school programs while the site was being restored.

  • It is now open Wednesday through Sunday and on civic holidays right through Labour Day.

Have you ever visited the Ukrainian Village? Tell us your favourite memory of it in the comments.

🏒 The Whole Hockey World Wants Cassidy and Vegas Knows It

The Oilers coaching search has officially become a standoff.

  • Edmonton wants Bruce Cassidy, Cassidy reportedly wants Edmonton, but the Vegas Golden Knights are refusing to grant interview permission until a hiring team agrees to absorb the full $4.5 million remaining on his contract.

  • The Los Angeles Kings have already conducted an interview with Cassidy while Edmonton waits on the sideline.

  • GM Stan Bowman says the search could take one to two weeks.

Check Your Bank Account. The Bread Money Is Actually Here.

Twelve years of price fixing and a $500 million settlement later, the cheques are finally going out.

  • Payments began rolling out the week of May 11 under the class action lawsuit covering packaged bread sold between 2001 and 2015 by Loblaw, George Weston, Metro, Sobeys and others.

  • If you filed a claim without the original Loblaw gift card, you will receive $49.11. If you took the gift card, your payout is $24.11.

  • The claim deadline was December 12, 2025, so if you missed it, this round is not for you.

A Canadian Has Tested Positive for Hantavirus. One of the High Risk Cases Is from Alberta.

This story just took a more serious turn.

  • A Yukon resident isolating in BC developed a fever and headache and has tested presumptive positive for the Andes strain of hantavirus linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship.

  • Nine Canadians are currently classified as high risk, including at least one Albertan, and 26 more across the country are being monitored after possible exposure on connecting flights.

  • The Andes strain is notable because it can spread between people, though BC health officials say overall public risk remains low.

The Man Who Ordered the Shooting at the US Consulate in Toronto Was Running Terror Networks Across Two Continents

The Iran war just got a lot closer to home.

  • US prosecutors unsealed charges on May 16 against Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, a Kata'ib Hizballah commander with ties to Iran, for directing the March 2026 shooting at the US consulate in Toronto.

  • He is also accused of planning a bombing at a New York synagogue and coordinating nearly 20 terror attacks across Europe as retaliation for the ongoing Iran war.

  • The charges are the first to directly connect the Strait of Hormuz conflict to violence on Canadian soil.

This is the side of this war most people have not been paying attention to. What do you make of it?
