The New Trick to Reducing Stress Without Losing Focus

Burnout and stress can make it hard to focus and keep up at work. That pressure builds, creating a cycle that’s tough to break.

If you’re looking for a way to ease workplace stress without feeling drowsy, try CBDistillery’s Daytime Calm gummies.

Each serving contains 50mg of CBG, a non-intoxicating compound derived from hemp, formulated to support calm and daytime focus.

In a 2022 CBDistillery study, CBG was associated with:

  • Increased focus and mental clarity

  • Reduced mild, temporary anxiety

Like all CBDistillery products, Daytime Calm gummies are third-party lab tested for quality and consistency.

Good morning, Edmonton and surrounding areas! Happy Canada Day, neighbours! 🇨🇦

It is the 159th birthday of this country, and Edmonton is marking it with fireworks at Kinsmen Park tonight, festival crowds downtown and yes, a wagyu burger or two along the way. Closer to home a washed out bridge in Strathcona County and a mosquito invasion prove the rain has not fully let go, while council circles back on river valley consultation. Nationally a heat wave is queuing up right behind our rain, and globally a Monaco bombing and a Pakistan Afghanistan escalation both broke overnight. Happy Canada Day. Grab your coffee ☕

🌉 Old Man Creek Finally Wins the Battle With a Strathcona County Bridge

What happened to the Township Road 534 bridge in Strathcona County?

Weeks of nonstop rain finally caught up with a rural bridge east of Edmonton, and the culvert underneath it did not stand a chance.

  • A beaver dam had been quietly blocking the culvert under Old Man Creek for about a week, and once the pressure built high enough on Sunday night the whole crossing gave way.

  • The bridge sits on Township Road 534 between Range Road 231 and Highway 21 in the Ankenside area, and Strathcona County crews have the road closed while they assess next steps.

One more reminder that this rain has not finished testing our infrastructure.

🦟 Bug Spray Is Flying Off Edmonton Shelves

Why can Edmonton stores not keep mosquito repellent in stock?

All that record breaking rain did more than flood basements, it also built a mosquito nursery across the city.

  • Traps that caught five mosquitoes back on May 23 were catching 534 of them by June 20, a jump of more than ten thousand percent in under a month.

  • Local stores say repellent has been selling out almost as fast as it arrives on shelves.

Grab a bottle before tonight's fireworks, you will want it.

🏛️ Council Circles Back on Indigenous Consultation for the River Valley

Why did Edmonton council delay its Rossdale zoning decision?

After a contentious public hearing, council postponed a Rossdale zoning call and is now looking at a broader policy for how Indigenous groups get consulted on river valley development.

  • Concerns raised at the June 23 hearing centered on whether Indigenous communities had a real seat at the table before redevelopment plans move forward.

  • The urban planning committee is set to weigh in on a formal engagement policy so future river valley projects do not run into the same holdup.

Worth watching if you care about what happens along our riverfront.

🍔 Eight Downtown Spots Are Serving 12 Dollar Wagyu Burgers

Where can you get a 12 dollar wagyu burger downtown starting this week?

Downtown YEG Burger Fest kicks off Thursday, and eight restaurants are each putting their own spin on a wagyu burger made with beef from a Sturgeon County farm.

  • Rosewood Foods is going pho inspired with pickled onions and Sriracha mayo, while Birdog leans steakhouse with caramelized onion jam and smoked gouda.

  • The lineup runs July 2 to 11 at spots including Eleven Eleven Kitchen and Bar, River City Revival House, Let's Smash Burger and Shakes and Jack's Burger Shack.

A fitting way to keep the Canada Day celebrations going, pick your favourite and go be a taste tester for the neighbourhood.

The Post-Workout Recovery Secret You’re Sleeping On

Your muscles rebuild when you’re sleeping, and not getting enough sleep can affect your post-workout recovery. CBDistillery’s sleep products are formulated to support your sleep naturally; in a 2021 study, participants reported sleeping an hour longer on average after taking CBDistillery’s combination of CBD and CBN. Save 25% with code SLEEPMORE.

🥵 A Heat Wave Is Rolling In Right Behind the Rain

How hot is it about to get across Canada heading into Canada Day?

Environment Canada issued heat warnings stretching from Ontario to Quebec as a heat dome builds, and even Alberta is picking up a milder version of the same pattern.

  • Toronto activated its full heat emergency measures under an orange warning, with humidex values expected between 37 and 45 through the week.

  • Alberta sits under a more moderate yellow alert with highs between 29 and 31C, a strange turn after a month spent measuring rain instead of heat.

Keep the water bottle handy no matter which province you are in this week.

🚤 Six Presumed Drowned After a Charter Boat Sank Off Richmond BC

What happened to the charter boat that sank near Richmond BC?

A boat carrying ten people began taking on water near Roberts Bank on Sunday, and four men and two women remain unaccounted for and are presumed drowned.

  • Four passengers were rescued after a nearby sailboat radioed for help, and two of them remain in hospital in critical condition.

  • The vessel sank in water roughly 150 to 180 metres deep, so RCMP divers are using sonar to decide whether a recovery dive is even possible.

A heavy story out of the coast, our thoughts are with the families waiting on answers.

💣 Manhunt Underway After Monaco Explosion Injures a Ukrainian Tycoon

Who was hurt in the Monaco explosion and where did the suspect go?

A bomb went off at an apartment entrance in Monaco on Monday night, injuring three people including a Ukrainian construction tycoon who Kyiv sanctioned back in 2023 over alleged Russian business ties.

  • Monaco police believe the attacker acted alone and fled on foot into neighbouring France, and CCTV footage shows him in a black jacket and hat partly covering his face.

  • Investigators have opened an attempted murder case but are not yet calling it terrorism.

A strange and tense story out of one of the world's smallest countries.

✈️ Pakistan Afghanistan Border Fighting Escalates Again

What is happening along the Pakistan Afghanistan border this week?

Pakistan says a ground operation and follow up strikes killed 29 militants along the Afghan border over the weekend, but Afghan officials tell a very different story.

  • Afghan sources say the strikes actually killed dozens of civilians and wounded more than 160 others in residential areas, a claim Pakistan disputes.

  • The operation followed an attack on a Pakistani Rangers headquarters in Karachi, and it adds to months of cross border fighting that has killed hundreds since February.

A conflict that keeps escalating with no resolution in sight.

HIT OR MISS 🎯

Happy Canada Day. Since half the city is thinking about firing up a grill today anyway, today's Hit or Miss is inspired by all that wagyu talk from Burger Fest.

Eleven Eleven Kitchen and Bar, Birdog, Rosewood Foods, The Common and Jack's Burger Shack are all rolling out specialty wagyu burgers starting Thursday. Hit if you already have a favourite on that list, miss if none of them have made it onto your radar yet.

Hit reply and tell me which spot you are hitting up first, or tell me the burger joint we left off the list entirely.
