What is Empowering Phoenixes in Spruce Grove, Alberta?

There is a reason Kayli Shaw named her company Empowering Phoenixes.

A phoenix does not just survive the fire. It rises from it, transformed into something stronger, more powerful, and more fully itself. That image is not accidental. For Kayli, it is personal.

Based in Spruce Grove, Empowering Phoenixes is an apparel and sticker company built around a mission that runs far deeper than what you would find on a price tag. The T-shirts, hoodies, and stickers Kayli creates are designed to raise awareness about domestic violence and to challenge the silence of a justice system that has, too often, failed the people who needed it most.

A portion of every sale goes directly to Warriors Way Forward, a domestic violence awareness association run by Kayli's friend and partner in purpose, Chelsea.

But the business did not start with a business plan. It started with her mom.

"It started from my mom's own experience in the justice system and how she was not seen, or heard, or believed," Kayli says. "I have wanted her to feel like she is seen, believed, and so much more than what she is. And I do not want others to feel that way."

Kayli is a two-generation domestic violence survivor. That is not a detail she offers for sympathy. It is the foundation of everything she does, the reason every product she makes carries meaning, and the reason every customer who reaches out to her receives something more than an order confirmation.

"Whenever someone has ordered from me, I try and make them feel seen and valued more than just a dollar sign," she says. "They can come back and know that I am willing to go above and beyond and try and support them in my way."

She describes the people she most wants to reach as warriors and survivors. Building that community, she says, takes time and courage. Not everyone understands, and not everyone is ready. But for those who are, Kayli is already there.

Her friendship with Chelsea and Warriors Way Forward is the kind of partnership that makes sense when two people are driven by the same thing. They support each other's work, show up for each other, and are proof that survivors building for survivors creates something lasting.

What she wants you to know

When asked what she wants people to know, not about what she sells, but about who she is, Kayli does not pause.

"I believe that everyone needs to be seen and believed, and that there is so much more than what has happened to them."
