Happy Friday Edmonton!

Introducing Local Love Fridays 💛

Every Friday, the Urban Brief shines a light on a local business owner in Edmonton and the surrounding area. Not as an ad, not as a pitch. Just their story in their own words. Because the people building something in this community deserve more than a listing.

Today we are featuring another local business that is serving our community of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Edmonton and surrounding areas.

If you own or know a local business that belongs in this spotlight, we will be honored to tell your story.

Katch Spa | Spruce Grove

Jackie did not set out to run a spa. She set out to be good at something that helped people feel better, and she has spent a quarter century figuring out every possible way to do exactly that.

She started as a Certified Massage Therapist. That was already a career. But somewhere along the way she realized she wanted more tools in her hands. So she went back to school. Took individual esthetics courses one at a time, building a second set of skills on top of the first. Facials. Lash extensions. Waxing. Body treatments. Tooth gems. The kind of work where you see the result on someone's face the moment they open their eyes.

Twenty-five years later, she has just relocated to Spruce Grove and opened Katch Spa at 20 McLeod Avenue. And she is starting fresh in a new city the same way she has always worked: one client at a time, with what she calls 110% care for each of them. She brought her reputation with her too. Over 490 five-star reviews on Booksy and counting.

What keeps Jackie in this business after all these years is not the treatments. It is the moments she cannot fully explain. A client who floats out of a foot massage with tears in her eyes. Someone who gets a fresh set of lash extensions and whispers on the way out that she does not want to leave. A person who came in stressed and brittle and leaves soft and quiet.

"It amazes me still," Jackie says. After 25 years, it amazes her still.

Her approach is simple: every service is customized. Whether you are coming in for a deep cleansing facial, a full body wax, a relaxing massage or something a little extra like tooth gems, you get something built for you, not a template pulled off a menu. Everyone who walks through the door is treated like they are the only appointment that day.

Katch Spa is just getting started in Spruce Grove, and Jackie is doing what she has always done in a new city. Showing up, listening and giving people a reason to not want to leave.

The Last Time Stocks Were This Expensive Was December 1999.

"Right now, it's good. But it was in '72, '86, 2000, and 2007." - Jamie Dimon, May 2026.

The Shiller CAPE ratio just hit 42.3. The only time in 140 years it's been higher? December 1999.

Stocks can stay expensive for a long time...

It’s one metric to consider, but when your portfolio is built around the most expensive equities in modern history, what else you diversify with could really matter.

Blue-chip contemporary and post war art has shown near-zero correlation with the S&P since 1995.* Prices are largely driven by private collectors competing for a fixed supply of artwork by artists like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso.

Masterworks lets you invest in shares of that market.

  • $1.3B deployed across 500+ artworks

  • 29 exits to date

  • Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, not including those unsold

Investors see ANOTHER return from Masterworks (!!!!)

That’s 6 sales in 7 months. 29 all time. And the performance?

16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, net annualized returns on sold works held longer than one year (See all 29 at Masterworks.com)

It’s not from stocks, private equity, or real estate… it’s from contemporary and post war art. Crazy, right?

With Masterworks, you don’t need to be a BILLIONAIRE to invest in multi-million dollar art anymore.

Historically, the segment overall has had attractive appreciation and low correlation to stocks.*

Masterworks targets works featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso, identifying what they believe to have significant long-term appreciation potential, not just at the artist level but at the level of individual artworks.

As one of the largest players in the art market, with $1.3 billion invested over 500 artworks, they pass critical advantages through to their 70,000+ members to add art to their portfolios strategically.
