Meta Is Building Its First Canadian Data Centre Right Next Door
What is Meta building in Sturgeon County?
Meta announced it will build its first data centre in Canada, a 13 billion dollar project in Sturgeon County that will be the largest of its kind outside the US.
The project brings 3000 construction jobs and about 300 permanent positions once it is running.
Meta is also putting 60 million dollars into local infrastructure around the site.
Sturgeon County just became a very big deal in the AI world.

What changed after Monday's protest?
After dozens of Fulton, Capilano and Goldbar residents protested Monday evening, city council agreed Tuesday to a compromise that keeps about half the on street parking along the route.
The original plan removed parking between 102 Avenue and 109A Avenue to make room for new bike lanes.
The compromise design costs about 700,000 dollars more than the original plan.

What did council decide about Rossdale?
City council voted 9 to 4 to allow buildings up to 15 storeys in part of Rossdale, despite nearly 20 speakers raising concerns about the site's Indigenous burial grounds and its place on the floodplain.
Papaschase First Nation Chief Calvin Bruneau supported the rezoning but urged careful archaeological monitoring.
The Edmonton River Valley Conservation Coalition warned the site still sits on a floodplain.
