Bloomberg: "No reliable safe havens." Billionaires have been investing elsewhere. Here's how to get in.
Bloomberg's Marcus Ashworth wrote plainly recently: "No more reliable safe havens."
After all, the S&P fell over 7% from the February peak. Bonds, even with less risk, are barely keeping pace with inflation.

Good morning, Edmonton and sister towns,
Tuesday is here with a full plate. Alberta's referendum numbers just landed and they tell an interesting story about where this province actually stands. Tim Hortons is making a big promise about who pours your next double double. And the Iran situation took yet another twist overnight. Grab your coffee. Let's get into it.💛

The Referendum Poll Is Here and the Numbers Are Not What You Might Expect
A brand new survey finds 60 percent of Albertans would vote to stay in Canada on October 19, but more than half say they cannot figure out what the ballot question is actually asking.
Edmonton residents were 73 percent in favour of staying. The rest of Alberta was nearly an even split. Even 28 percent of past UCP voters are dissatisfied with how Smith has handled this.
The Angus Reid survey of 800 Albertans (conducted May 22 to 24) also found 40 percent of Albertans believe Smith does not care what happens as long as she stays in power.
What do you think the No side needs to do between now and October 19?

Heading to YEG? North Tower Construction Just Started
Edmonton International Airport is warning travellers to expect some delays as Clark Builders begins redeveloping the North Tower at YEG.
The airport says slowdowns will be minimal, but passengers should build a little extra time into their trip and stay updated through the YEG website or their travel app.
No completion timeline was given. With the Canada vs Uzbekistan World Cup match on June 1 at Commonwealth Stadium, extra planning right now is worth it.
Flying anywhere in the next few weeks? Head to the YEG website before you go.

Tim Hortons Is Promising to Hire 10,000 Canadians and Scale Back on Temporary Foreign Workers
Tim Hortons announced Monday it will hire 10,000 local Canadians in the coming months and reduce its use of the Temporary Foreign Worker program.
Of the chain's roughly 110,000 Canadian employees, about 4,000 are currently TFWs. The company is also opening 80 new locations across Canada this year.
Youth unemployment sits above 14 percent nationally. One economist noted the timing is not coincidental: Dunkin' Donuts is arriving in Canada and Tim's needs to up its game.
Would you head back to Tim's if your local crew was all hired from the neighbourhood?

The US Struck Iran Overnight While Saying the Peace Talks Are Going Great
The US military carried out strikes on Iranian boats and missile sites on Monday while Trump was simultaneously telling the world that negotiations are "proceeding nicely."
CENTCOM called the strikes "self-defense" against boats attempting to lay mines and active missile launch sites in southern Iran. A ceasefire technically remains in place.
Brent crude slipped to around $98 a barrel, near its lowest level since the Hormuz blockade began. Every dollar off Brent has a direct impact on Alberta royalty revenue.
Does this feel like a deal getting closer or a deal about to collapse?

YOUR TURN 💌
Which story are you still thinking about after today's issue?
A) The referendum numbers. 60 percent want to stay but half the province is confused by the question B) Tim Hortons hiring local. Too little too late or genuinely a good move? C) The US striking Iran while calling it self-defense during "nice" peace talks D) All of the above and I need another coffee

TRIVIA TUESDAY 🧠
Before we get to today's question, one quick warm-up thought: Canada is hosting the World Cup and Edmonton is right in the middle of it. Commonwealth Stadium lights up June 1.
Now here is your question:
Before hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when was the last time Canada competed in a FIFA World Cup?
Think about it for a second before you scroll.

Trivia answer is 1986 in Mexico.
Canada played three group stage matches, scored zero goals, earned zero points, and went home without putting the ball in the net once. That was 40 years ago. This time, they are playing in their own backyard. Edmonton gets to watch it happen live.
Did you know that? Hit reply and tell us if you're heading to the June 1 match at Commonwealth.
