We hired one colleague for every department.

Last Tuesday, marketing asked Viktor to write the weekly campaign recap, pull performance from Google Ads and Meta, and format it as a PDF for the exec team. Done in four minutes.

That same afternoon, engineering asked Viktor to review three open pull requests on GitHub, cross-reference with the Linear sprint board, and flag anything blocking the release. Posted to private channel before standup.

At 9pm, ops asked Viktor to draft a vendor contract summary from three Notion docs and send it to the team. It was in #ops by morning.

None of them knew the others were using it.

Same colleague. Three departments. That's what changes when your AI coworker lives in Slack, where your whole company already works. It's not a tool one person logs into. It's a teammate everyone messages.

5,700+ teams. SOC 2 certified. Your data never trains models.

"Viktor is now an integral team member, and after weeks of use we still feel we haven't uncovered the full potential." - Patrick O'Doherty, Director, Yarra Web

Happy Tuesday Edmonton!

The news is not slowing down for anyone. Trump called off a planned attack on Iran this morning, the Oilers just got a new coaching candidate and the trade war found something new to target on the grocery shelf. Pull up a chair. Here is what you need to know.💛

The Oilers Have a New Coach Candidate as the Cassidy Standoff Drags On

The Edmonton Oilers have formally entered talks with Craig Berube as head coach, while the Vegas Golden Knights continue to block access to their first choice, Bruce Cassidy.

  • TSN insider Ryan Rishaug reported Monday that Edmonton has already received permission to interview Berube, with a formal meeting expected soon.

  • Pierre LeBrun confirmed Vegas still has not granted any team permission to speak with Cassidy, who has one year left on his Golden Knights contract.

  • Berube, 60, won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019 and was fired by Toronto on May 14 after two seasons behind the bench.

Is Berube the right fit for this group, or should Edmonton keep waiting for Cassidy?

The US Just Paused an 86 Year Military Partnership With Canada

The United States has put one of its oldest military relationships with Canada on hold, publicly accusing Ottawa of not living up to its defence commitments.

  • US undersecretary of defence Elbridge Colby announced Monday that his department is pausing the Permanent Joint Board on Defence, established in 1940, saying the US can "no longer avoid the gaps between rhetoric and reality."

  • Canada has actually surpassed NATO spending targets under PM Carney. Former Conservative leader Erin O'Toole called the move "profoundly misguided" given the timing.

  • CFB Edmonton and 4 Wing Cold Lake are two of Canada's largest military installations. Both are directly tied to continental defence planning coordinated through this board.

Is this a genuine dispute or just political posturing from Washington?

🍄 The US Just Slapped Tariffs on Canadian Mushrooms. Your Grocery Cart Is Not Safe.

The United States has hit fresh Canadian mushrooms with countervailing duties, the first time American trade action has formally targeted a Canadian agricultural product outside of lumber and steel since current tensions began.

  • The US Department of Commerce posted the duties in the federal register Monday, setting a 2.84 percent tariff on most Canadian producers, with separate anti-dumping duties still expected later this month.

  • Mushrooms Canada CEO Ryan Koeslag called the investigation "deeply flawed," saying standard provincial farm tax exemptions do not meet the legal definition of a countervailable subsidy.

  • Trade lawyers warn this ruling could open the door for other US agricultural industries to follow. Alberta grows canola, wheat, beef and pork, and all of them are now watching closely.

How much is the trade war changing what you buy at the grocery store?

Three People Killed in San Diego Mosque Shooting. Two Teen Gunmen Found Dead.

Two gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday, killing three men in what police have confirmed was a hate crime.

  • San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said both suspects, aged 17 and 19, were found dead in a nearby vehicle from what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds.

  • A mosque security guard was among those killed. Chief Wahl credited him with preventing the attack from being "much worse." The FBI is jointly investigating.

  • Edmonton has a large and long-established Muslim community and is home to the Al Rashid Mosque, the oldest mosque in Canada, founded in 1938.

Our thoughts are with the San Diego Muslim community and all who are grieving today.

⚠️ Trump Called Off a Strike on Iran. Serious Talks Are Now Underway.

President Trump called off a planned attack on Iran on Monday, saying serious negotiations toward a peace deal are underway just one day after warning Tehran that the clock was ticking.

  • The International Energy Agency is urging work-from-home measures and reduced air travel to ease a looming global fuel shortage. Oil inventories are depleting at a record pace with the Strait of Hormuz still largely closed.

  • Global inventories are projected to hit near all-time lows of 7.6 billion barrels by end of May, even as oil prices held positive after Trump's announcement.

  • Alberta's provincial revenues are directly tied to Brent crude. The difference between a real peace deal and a collapsed negotiation could represent billions in royalty income for this province.

Do you think this negotiation holds, or is this another delay before things escalate again?

The answer: Edmonton's Al Rashid Mosque is the oldest mosque in Canada.

Founded in 1938, Al Rashid opened 16 years before Saskatchewan's first mosque and well before Canada's Muslim population grew significantly. The original building is now preserved at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village east of Edmonton. Today it stands as one of the quiet landmarks that make Edmonton's history richer than most people realize.

In a week when news from San Diego is reminding us how much these communities matter, it feels worth knowing who built the foundation here first.
