What is causing so many tornadoes in Alberta this year?
Environment Canada says Alberta has already logged 23 confirmed tornadoes this year, nearly matching the last two years combined, and meteorologists are calling it a perfect concoction of ingredients.
Moisture has been abundant all season, and wind shear aloft has been the biggest driver behind the outbreak.
Prairie wide tornado counts already sit at 48 against a normal average of 34, with six more weeks of peak season left.

Leduc Massage Therapist Faces Six More Sexual Assault Charges
Is there an update on the Edmonton area massage therapist case?
Yes. Julio Uribe Beltran now faces seven counts of sexual assault in total after five more survivors came forward to Leduc RCMP with complaints from his time at a Leduc clinic.
The new charges cover incidents reported over a ten month span between July 2025 and April 2026.
He was originally charged in June after a complaint from his Edmonton practice, and is due in Leduc court on August 6.
Police believe there could be more survivors and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
Your Capital Line LRT Is Closed Today
Is the LRT running between Churchill and Clareview today?
No, not today. Capital Line trains are fully replaced by buses between Churchill and Clareview for the entirety of service today, while crews install a new track crossing north of 115 Avenue.
Replacement buses run every seven to eight minutes until 7 PM, then every ten minutes until close.
Regular train service returns Tuesday, though Monday will still run on a single track.
Build in some extra time if you are headed downtown today.

Ottawa and Michigan confirmed the new bridge between Windsor and Detroit opens July 27, closing out a project a decade in the making.

Typhoon Bavi made landfall in Zhejiang province late Saturday with winds near 144 km an hour, after nearly two million people were evacuated across the region.
The storm already battered Taiwan and southern Japan before landfall, cancelling hundreds of flights and shutting down rail and ferry service.
Officials called it one of the largest evacuation efforts the region has seen in years.
