Good morning, Edmonton and surrounding areas! Happy Tuesday!
Another round of storms is rolling in this afternoon, with a real risk of large hail and a tornado or two across the region before things finally clear out tonight.
We have got Edmonton drying out from Monday's flooding just as another storm moves in, Calgary police stepping back from the ground search for Parker Wells, and a stark warning from the Chamber of Commerce about downtown business closures. Here is what is making news across Edmonton and the surrounding areas this Tuesday.

🌊 Edmonton Floods Again as a Second Storm Rips Through the City
Did Monday's storm hit worse than Saturday's?
Three waves of heavy rain swept across Edmonton Monday afternoon, flooding the Connors Road and Scona Road interchange near the river valley, downing a tree onto the Valley Line tracks and cutting access to the Muttart Conservatory, which will stay closed through Wednesday.
The city says crews have handled more than 2,200 storm related calls since July 1, including hundreds of downed trees.
Edmonton has now picked up 511mm of rain across June and July combined, the wettest stretch the city has seen since 1953.
Keep your rain boots by the door, this soggy summer is not done with us yet.
🧒 Calgary Police Step Back From the Ground Search for Parker Wells
Have police given up looking for Parker?
Calgary police say they are refocusing their search for 11 year old Parker Wells after 12 days, scaling back the physical ground search even as Chief Katie McLellan insists the investigation is far from over.
Searchers walked more than 8,600 kilometres and logged over 5,500 hours before police made the call to shift toward tips and evidence.
Police say they will keep reviewing hundreds of hours of video and any new leads that come in.
Keep Parker and his family close in your thoughts this week.
🏙️ Downtown Chamber Sounds the Alarm on Business Closures
Why are so many downtown businesses closing?
The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce is calling on city council to act now after nearly 20 downtown businesses closed this year, a two to one ratio of closures to openings, with more than half of surveyed businesses saying they do not feel safe operating downtown.
The Chamber wants free on street parking and waived patio fees downtown for the rest of the construction season.
Construction disruption and public safety topped the list of reasons members gave for the exodus.
If you have a favourite downtown spot, this might be the week to go show it some love.

🗳️ Carney Calls Three Federal Byelections for August 31
Where are the next byelections happening?
Prime Minister Mark Carney has called byelections for August 31 in three ridings, Beaches East York in Ontario, Chicoutimi Le Fjord in Quebec and North Vancouver Capilano in BC, after their sitting MPs left for other roles.
One MP left politics, one became an ambassador and one was named to the Senate, opening all three seats this summer.
The Liberals have held two of the three ridings since 2015.
Mark your calendar if you know anyone voting in those ridings.
🔍 Toronto Hate Crime Unit Investigates Attack on Jewish Owned Bakeries
What happened at the Toronto bakeries?
Toronto police are investigating after two locations of a Jewish owned bagel chain were targeted overnight, one struck by gunfire and the other vandalized, in what the hate crime unit is treating as a serious concern for the community.
No injuries were reported at either location.
Police say they are increasing patrols in the area while the investigation continues.
A good week to check in on any Jewish friends or neighbours who might be feeling uneasy.

🕊️ Suspect in Deadly Berlin Pride Attack Killed by Police
What happened to the Berlin attack suspect?
The 21 year old suspect accused of driving a van into a crowd near Berlin's Pride festival, then attacking others with a machete, was shot dead by police Sunday after he charged at officers with a knife.
The attack killed one woman and injured 29 others near the closing party by the Brandenburg Gate.
Prime Minister Carney called the attack horrific and shared solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Hug someone in your life who deserves to feel safe being exactly who they are.
🛢️ Oil Prices Slide as the US and Iran Hold Their Fire for Another Day
Why did oil prices drop so much overnight?
Oil prices fell sharply Monday after the United States and Iran both held off further strikes for a second straight day, with Brent crude dropping more than 11 percent as markets bet the pause could hold.
Iran's foreign ministry says it currently has no direct talks underway with the US, only with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz.
Lower oil prices can eventually flow through to prices at the pump here at home.
Keep an eye on gas prices this week, they might actually dip for once.
