Good morning, Edmonton and surrounding areas! Happy Sunday! ☀️
Morning fog burns off into a warm, clear afternoon today, though wildfire smoke is still hanging around, so keep that in mind if your plans take you outside.
We have got the search for Parker Wells stretching into its 10th day, Edmonton groups keeping a close watch on seniors through the heat, and a measles milestone with real ties to Alberta's own outbreak. Here is what is making news across Edmonton and the surrounding areas this Sunday.

🔍 Search for Missing Calgary Boy Parker Wells Enters a 10th Day
Has there been any update on the search for Parker Wells?
Calgary police closed the west parking lot and trail entrance to Nose Hill Park through the weekend as the search for eleven year old Parker, who is nonverbal and autistic, stretches into a 10th day, with volunteers still turning out at a pop up support centre near Thorncliffe.
Trained search teams, thermal imaging drones, mounted officers and police dogs continue working parks, waterways and green spaces across the city.
Investigators have followed up on more than 400 tips and reviewed over 1,000 CCTV clips so far.
Keep him in your thoughts and keep an eye out.
🌡️ Edmonton Groups Keep a Close Watch on Seniors Through the Heat and Smoke
Who is looking out for Edmonton's most vulnerable through this heat wave?
With the city's extreme heat response extended through Sunday, groups like Meals on Wheels say the hot, smoky stretch has made their daily wellness checks on seniors more important than ever.
People 65 and older are among those most at risk from both the heat and the wildfire smoke blanketing the region.
The city is asking residents to check on older neighbours and call 211 if anyone needs help, or 911 for an emergency.
Take a minute today to check in on someone who might need it.
🦆 Lake Summerside's Resident Duck Buddy Is Outsmarting Everyone Trying to Rehome Him
Who is Buddy and why does he need a new home?
Buddy, a Cayuga duck who showed up at the manmade lake in south Edmonton's Summerside neighbourhood three months ago, has a new home lined up with other ducks and geese, but he keeps dodging every attempt to catch him.
Buddy cannot fly and would not survive an Alberta winter without proper shelter and nutrition.
An expert bird catcher is being brought in this weekend to finally get the job done.
Wish Buddy's rescue team a little luck today.

✈️ WestJet Lets Travellers Change or Cancel Flights Free as Strike Deadline Nears
Should you be worried about your WestJet flight this week?
WestJet is letting anyone booked between July 30 and August 4 change or cancel their flight with no fee, after the airline's 4,400 flight attendants voted 99.4 percent in favour of a strike that could ground Canada's second largest airline right over the August long weekend.
The free change and cancel policy only applies to flights booked in that window, not WestJet Encore or codeshare flights.
WestJet says it remains in active negotiations and is optimistic a deal can still be reached before August 2.
Worth checking your plans if you have a flight booked that week.
🌉 Trump Says Gordie Howe Bridge Deal Is Dead, Contradicting Carney a Day Later
What is going on with the new Gordie Howe Bridge agreement?
Just after Canadian officials marked the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge in Windsor, Trump posted that the original revenue sharing deal no longer stands and the US now gets half the profit, directly contradicting what Carney told reporters about the underlying agreement a day earlier.
The original 2012 deal had Canada keep toll revenue until the 6.4 billion dollar construction cost was paid off, then split evenly.
The new text has Canada paying the US 50 percent of net revenue for the first 15 years, without clearly defining operating costs.
One to watch as both sides explain what they actually agreed to.

🩺 US Measles Cases Hit a 35 Year High, for the Second Record Breaking Year in a Row
How bad has this year's measles outbreak gotten in the US?
The CDC has now confirmed more measles cases in 2026 than in all of 2025, with over 2,300 cases so far and 93 percent of those infected unvaccinated, a milestone that lands close to home given Alberta's own measles outbreak has now spread to every health zone in the province.
Most of this year's US cases have come from 45 jurisdictions across 35 separate outbreaks.
Falling childhood vaccination rates are the main factor public health officials point to.
A good reminder to check your own family's vaccination records if it has been a while.

BET YOU DID NOT KNOW 🤔
Did you know Alberta has been the site of two of Canada's deadliest tornadoes, one of them tearing through a campground on a summer weekend much like this one?
On July 14 2000, an F3 tornado tore through the Green Acres campground at Pine Lake, near Red Deer, killing 12 people and injuring more than 100. It remains Canada's deadliest tornado of the 21st century, and at the time was the first deadly tornado in the country since Edmonton's own Black Friday twister back in 1987. With tonight's storm risk across the region, it is a good reminder to know where you would shelter if a warning ever came your way. Have you got a plan?
