79,000 Albertans Are About To Feel This Decision In Their Bank Accounts And Premier Smith Is Not Backing Down
Alberta's most vulnerable residents woke up this week to news that their benefits could be getting cut, and the Premier's reasoning has sparked fury across the province.
Premier Danielle Smith said she wants to ensure programs like AISH aren't "overly generous" and that she has heard people have moved to Alberta just to take advantage of its social programs.
Here's what you need to know:
AISH currently supports 79,000 Albertans living with permanent disabilities
Inclusion Alberta CEO Trish Bowman said her organization asked the province for evidence that people are moving to Alberta to access AISH but has never received data backing up this claim.
The cuts come as Alberta faces a $9.4 billion deficit, and disability advocates say the most vulnerable are being asked to carry the heaviest load.
Critics are calling the Premier's comments stigmatizing and dangerous
79,000 Albertans. Real people. Real lives. Real consequences.
Is cutting AISH the right call in a $9.4 billion deficit, or are we asking the wrong people to sacrifice?
Every Edmonton Homeowner Is Paying For Something They Don't Fully Understand, And The Mayor Just Called It Out
Your property tax bill is higher than it needs to be, and Edmonton's Mayor just went on record about why.
Edmonton Mayor Andrew Knack called on the Alberta government to collect its own education property tax directly from residents, saying municipalities should not act as intermediaries — noting the current system leaves residents confused because a significant share of their property tax bill actually goes to the province rather than the city.
Here's why this matters to your wallet:
A significant portion of what you pay in property tax goes directly to the provincial government, not to fix YOUR roads or YOUR rec centres
The current system makes it look like Edmonton is collecting more than it actually keeps, creating confusion and unfair criticism of city spending
Mayor Knack argues a cleaner more transparent system would rebuild trust between residents and their municipal government
The Province has not yet responded to the Mayor's call
You pay it every year. You deserve to know exactly where every dollar goes.
Edmonton homeowners, did you know part of your property tax goes straight to the province? Does that surprise you? 👇
They Needed A Statement. They Delivered One. The Oilers Just Gutted Out A Massive 4-2 Win In Las Vegas
After a brutal 6-3 loss to Carolina on Friday the Oilers flew to Las Vegas and reminded everyone exactly why this team is dangerous when it shows up. Sunday night they showed up.
⚡ The moment: Vasily Podkolzin split the defence on a breakaway two and a half minutes into the third period to give Edmonton the lead for good, with Leon Draisaitl following up with his 34th goal of the season to make it 3-1 before Kasperi Kapanen sealed it with an empty netter assisted by Connor McDavid. Final score - Oilers 4, Golden Knights 2.
Here's what stood out on a big night in Vegas:
Colton Dach picked up his first point as an Oiler on Trent Frederic's opening goal, a sign the new additions are already clicking.
Evan Bouchard extended his point streak to seven games, a sign that Edmonton's defence is finding its groove at exactly the right time.
Connor Ingram was excellent between the pipes stopping 24 of 26 shots and making the case he should be Edmonton's go to starter down the stretch.
The win cuts the points gap between Edmonton and Vegas to just two in the Pacific Division, the playoff race just got very interesting
The new pieces are fitting in. The goaltending held. The big guns delivered. That is the Oilers this city has been waiting to see.
Oilers nation that win felt different didn't it? Are we back? Share this with another Oilers fan 👇

This International Women's Day Celebration Just Outside Edmonton Is Everything Our Community Needed
While the world marks International Women's Day today, one spot just outside Edmonton is doing something quietly beautiful about it.
Prairie Garden and Adventure Farm in Sturgeon County hosted a special International Women's Day Mini Retreat yesterday, a chance for women in the Edmonton area to breathe, connect and celebrate together in one of Alberta's most beautiful settings.
Here's what makes this one special:
It happened yesterday a spontaneous last minute reason to get outside and celebrate.
Prairie Garden is one of Alberta's most beloved community spaces, nestled in the heart of Sturgeon County just a short drive from Edmonton
In a week full of heavy news this is a reminder that community, connection and celebration matter just as much
Events like this are exactly what surrounding area communities do better than anywhere else
Edmonton gets the headlines. But sometimes the most meaningful moments happen just down the road. 🌸

They Stood Silent For The National Anthem. Iran Called Them Traitors. Now Their Lives Are At Risk
On International Women's Day, this story needs to be told and shared.
⚡ The moment: Iranian players stood silent during the Iranian national anthem before a Women's Asian Cup match and state media immediately labeled them traitors. Iran's exiled former crown prince has now called on the Australian government to ensure the safety of every single player on that team.
Here's why this is so powerful today:
These women didn't carry signs or give speeches, they simply stood in silence. And that silence has put their lives at risk.
The Iranian regime has a documented history of imprisoning and harming athletes who show dissent.
Their act of quiet courage comes as Iran is under military attack, making their bravery even more extraordinary.
Today on International Women's Day their silent protest is the loudest statement in the world.
Silence has never been so brave. Or so dangerous.
On International Women's Day share this story for every woman in the world who has ever been silenced for simply standing up. 💜👇
He Was A Rapper. Then A Mayor. Now He Is About To Become Prime Minister Of Nepal
Remember the Nepal Gen Z revolution we told you about in Issue 3? The results are in, and they are extraordinary.
A Nepali political party led by ex-rapper Balen Shah is set for a landslide victory in the country's first parliamentary election since Gen Z protests ousted the old leadership that had ruled the Himalayan nation for decades.
Here's the full circle moment:
In September 2025 young Nepalis flooded the streets and forced a 74 year old Prime Minister to resign
800,000 first time voters registered as a direct result of the protests
Today those same young people handed a 35 year old rapper turned mayor a mandate to lead their country
Not a single mainstream Canadian media outlet covered any of this
From the streets to the ballot box. Gen Z just proved that people power is real.
Could something like this ever happen in Canada? A young outsider with no political background taking on the establishment and winning? 👇
