Hey Edmonton! Happy Saturday!
Welcome to what is shaping up to be a genuinely beautiful weekend. Before you head out into that 19-degree sunshine there are a few things worth knowing today, starting with a serious one that may hit closer to home than you think. Grab a coffee and let us get into it.💛

🔐 Your Address Was on the Internet and You Did Not Know It
Three million Albertans had their home addresses and full names posted in a searchable online database by a separatist group, and most of them had no idea it was happening until a court stepped in.
The Centurion Project, a separatist group led by longtime political organizer David Parker, obtained a copy of the province's electoral list from the Republican Party of Alberta and turned it into a searchable public app
An Edmonton judge granted an injunction on Thursday ordering the database taken down; RCMP are now investigating whether the data was accessed or shared illegally
Premier Danielle Smith is calling for accountability and says her government will consider new legislation; the province's privacy commissioner is also calling for law changes that would give her office oversight of political parties for the first time
A Father Called 911. His Two Children Were Already Gone.
This one is heavy, Edmonton, but it matters.
A 37-year-old Calgary man called 911 himself on Wednesday and told police he had killed his children; officers arrested him at the scene and found a five-year-old boy and three-year-old girl deceased inside a vehicle on a busy northwest Calgary road
The man is the children's father; he has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder
The homicide unit is investigating; police say the accused gave a statement confessing to what had occurred
🌊 Draper Is Still on Alert, and the Flooding Has Started
This is a follow-up to the Draper story in Issue 57. The situation has meaningfully escalated.
Overland flooding is now actively occurring in low-lying areas of Draper, the small community southeast of Fort McMurray that has been on evacuation alert since Wednesday due to ice jam risk on the Clearwater River
Provincial river forecasters are conducting daily aerial flights to monitor conditions; the Fort McMurray Water Treatment Plant remains unaffected
Starting Saturday May 2, community updates will scale back to once per day after each daily flight report

Carney Says Alberta Will Very Likely Get a New Pipeline
In his first major sit-down interview since taking office, the Prime Minister said the quiet part out loud about Alberta oil.
Prime Minister Mark Carney told The Canadian Press on Friday that a new oil pipeline out of Alberta is "more likely than not", citing soaring global energy demand driven by the Iran war and Canada's push to diversify toward Asian markets
Carney left the door open to multiple routes, saying there are several options beyond Danielle Smith's preferred northern BC coast corridor, including a southern route that faces fewer environmental and Indigenous hurdles
The project still needs an energy company to commit to building it; Carney's government signed a memorandum of understanding with Alberta late last year to work toward making it happen

🚢 Iran Made an Offer. Trump Said No. Oil Dropped Anyway. — Day 63
A new development in the war that directly affects every Alberta energy producer watching oil prices.
Iran submitted a new peace proposal through Pakistani mediators on Thursday, which was forwarded to the United States, the first sign in days that diplomatic channels remain open; oil markets reacted immediately, dropping 3 percent with Brent settling around $108 a barrel, down from Wednesday's $126 wartime high
President Trump said publicly that the Iranian proposal included terms he "can't agree to," cooling initial optimism that a deal was imminent
The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas normally flows, remains closed; both sides appear to be waiting for the other to blink first

🌤️ Edmonton Weather - Saturday May 2nd
Saturday is giving Edmonton exactly what it ordered. Expect full sunshine and a high of 19°C today, the kind of afternoon that makes it very hard to stay indoors and very easy to justify doing absolutely nothing productive in the backyard. Overnight temperatures drop to around 5°C, so grab a layer if you are planning to stretch the evening out on the patio.

THIS OR THAT 🗳️
Alright Edmonton, the season is over and the sun is out. Time to find out what kind of fan you really are.
The Oilers are home for the summer. It stings. But the playoffs keep rolling without us and there are 16 beautiful degrees waiting outside your door right now.
So here is the question:
Are you still watching the playoffs and picking a new team to cheer for?
🏒 Still Watching:- You are already scouting a team to ride out the rest of the playoffs. Maybe you hate the Ducks enough to cheer for whoever beats them. Maybe you just love the game. Either way, the TV stays on.
☀️ Done Until October:- The Oilers are out and so are you. Patio season is officially open, the grill is coming out and you are not thinking about hockey again until training camp. Zero guilt.
Drop your answer in the comments. Still Watching or Done Until October? And if you are picking a team, tell us who. 👇
