Good morning and Happy Easter, Edmonton! š£
Whether you are hunting for eggs, sitting down to a big family brunch or simply enjoying a quiet morning with your coffee, we are so glad you are here. It is a cold and cloudy one out there today, but inside this issue you will find an Alberta town getting its rink back, a rescue story that will give you chills, and yes, actual rabbits taking over a north Edmonton neighbourhood on Easter Sunday of all days. Let us get into it. š

A Patient Was Stabbed Inside an Edmonton ER. About 50 People Watched It Happen.
It was supposed to be a place of healing. Friday evening at the Royal Alexandra Hospital changed that for everyone in the room.
Around 6:15 PM, a patient attacked another patient in the emergency room. Edmonton police officers who were already on site stepped in and took the attacker into custody. The victim, a 42 year old man, suffered serious and life threatening injuries.
NDP health critic Sarah Hoffman said roughly 50 people including doctors, nurses and other patients witnessed the attack and described it as terrifying. She called on the government to invest in hospital security immediately.
Hospitals minister Matt Jones called the incident "unsettling" and said Alberta Health Services is accelerating a weapons screening program already approved for the Royal Alex. A request for proposals has closed and implementation timelines are being moved up.
Nobody walking into an emergency room should have to fear for their safety. Is it time for Alberta hospitals to have security screening at the door? š
š Alberta Town Wins Hockeyville and the Whole Country Cheered
A small Alberta community just got the Easter Sunday news it has been waiting months for.

Taber, Alberta was named the Kraft Hockeyville 2026 winner Saturday night live on Hockey Night in Canada, beating out Tumbler Ridge, BC. The win means $250,000 for rink upgrades and the chance to host an NHL pre-season game in 2027.
The Taber Community Centre lost both of its ice rinks last December when a Zamboni explosion caused a fireball that shattered glass, damaged the roof and toppled concrete walls. About 250 young hockey players have been travelling to practice and play ever since.
The town said it best: "This was never just about hockey. This was about home."
Alberta wins. Canada voted. Now those kids get their rink back. š Would you make the trip to Taber for an NHL pre-season game next fall? š
š° Happy Easter, Edmonton. The Rabbits Have Arrived and They Are Not Leaving.
You really could not write a better Easter Sunday story if you tried.

A colony of feral domestic rabbits has been quietly multiplying in the Calder neighbourhood in north Edmonton. What started as a couple of abandoned pets has grown into a full community problem, with residents saying they have been left to manage the situation entirely on their own.
Neighbours are worried the population will keep growing if nothing is done. Domestic rabbits are not built for Alberta winters or city life, and the concern is as much about the animals as it is about the neighbourhood.
The City of Edmonton has not announced any plans to address the colony.
On Easter Sunday, of all days, Edmonton has a rabbit situation. What would you do if a colony showed up in your backyard? š°š

A Dangerous Bacterial Infection Is at Its Highest Level in Canada in Over a Decade. Here Is What Parents Need to Know.
It moves fast, it can kill within hours, and vaccination rates have been quietly dropping since the pandemic.
Cases of invasive meningococcal disease in Canada hit 155 in 2025, the highest national total since 2012, up from just 48 cases in 2021. The disease carries a 14 per cent death rate and can go from early symptoms to life threatening in a matter of hours.
Infants and young adults are at the highest risk. Manitoba has been hit hardest, with 23 cases and four deaths in 2025 alone, roughly five times the usual annual count. Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan are also seeing increases.
Vaccines exist and are effective, but coverage has been falling. Federal data shows the meningococcal C vaccine coverage in children under two dropped from over 90 per cent in 2019 to less than 84 per cent by 2024.
Worth a quick call to your family doctor this week. When did your kids last get their meningococcal vaccine? š

āļø Both American Crew Members Are Out of Iran. Trump Says "WE GOT HIM."
For 36 hours, a US weapons systems officer evaded capture in the mountains of Iran while armed Iranian civilians hunted him for a $60,000 bounty. On Easter Sunday, he made it home.
The crew member from the downed F-15E was pulled from deep inside Iranian territory early this morning in what Trump called one of the most daring rescue operations in US military history. US special forces fought through ground fire to reach him. The first crew member, the pilot, had been rescued Friday. Both are now safe.
The airman evaded capture on foot through mountainous terrain for more than a day while the IRGC and local tribesmen closed in. American rescue teams kept going back in until they had him.
Trump posted "WE GOT HIM!" on Truth Social and said the operation proves the US has achieved overwhelming air superiority over Iran. Iran's deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz now has less than 48 hours remaining.
On Easter Sunday, two American families get their person back. Whatever you think of the war, that part is worth knowing. š
š Four Jewish Ambulances Were Set on Fire in London. Now Four Suspects Are in Custody.
A volunteer ambulance service that quietly saves lives in north London had four of its vehicles destroyed in a targeted arson attack. This week, the people responsible started facing justice.
On March 23, four ambulances belonging to Hatzola, a not-for-profit Jewish volunteer emergency service that works alongside Britain's National Health Service, were torched while parked near a synagogue in the Golders Green neighbourhood of London. Oxygen cylinders on board exploded, shattering windows in a nearby apartment building. No one was injured but the damage ran into more than a million dollars.
Three suspects appeared in court Saturday, two British men aged 19 and 20, and a 17 year old, charged with arson with intent to endanger life. A fourth person was arrested right at the courthouse when officers recognized him from the investigation. All three charged are being held in custody until an April 24 hearing at the Old Bailey.
Counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation and are looking into a claim of responsibility from a group with suspected links to Iran. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called it a "deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack." Antisemitic incidents in Britain have risen sharply since October 2023.
Hatzola has been serving London's Jewish community for decades. They save lives. Someone tried to take that away. Does this kind of attack concern you? š
