Good morning, Edmonton, Happy Wednesday!!
It is April 1st and no, this is not a joke; Alberta just told teachers to leave their opinions at the door, a heartbreaking update from St. Albert that needs your attention, and the case for why three quarters of Canadians agree on something for once. Plus the Oilers are home. 💛

Alberta Just Told Teachers to Leave Their Opinions at the Door
The UCP government tabled a sweeping new education bill Tuesday and parents across Alberta are going to have thoughts.
Bill 25 would require all Alberta teachers to be "neutral and impartial" when delivering lessons, ban all flags in schools except the Canadian and Alberta flags, and require the national anthem to be played at least once a week
School boards would also be barred from issuing statements on political or social issues outside of education matters, and would need ministerial approval to name or rename any school building
The Alberta Teachers' Association called the bill a "grab bag of amendments" that has very little to do with actual classroom politics, and a University of Alberta professor called it "a highly ideological bill that is attempting to ban ideology"
Whether you think politics has no place in classrooms or that this goes way too far, this one is going to spark a real conversation at the kitchen table.
💔 RCMP Are Asking for Your Help Finding Baby Braylee's Remains
This is one of the hardest stories we have ever had to cover. But RCMP need the public's help and that matters more.
Alberta RCMP now believe the remains of five month old Braylee Beasley were placed in a waste disposal bin outside door 11 of the Sturgeon Point Villas Apartments in St. Albert sometime between mid-September and mid-November 2025, after her mother Ayla Egotik-Learn was killed
Investigators are asking anyone who may have disposed of large bedroom furniture in that specific bin during that window to come forward, as knowing the date would significantly help them narrow down a search site
Christopher Beasley, 33, the baby's father, has been charged with second degree murder in the death of Egotik-Learn and two counts of indignity to a body, he remains in custody and is next in court April 20
If you have any information at all, please contact Alberta RCMP. Ayla and Braylee deserve answers.
🏒 Ingram's Birthday Shutout Gives Oilers a 3-0 Win Over Seattle, Four in a Row

Connor Ingram celebrated his 29th birthday in the best possible way Tuesday night.
Ingram made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season as Kasperi Kapanen and Max Jones each scored in the first period and Connor McDavid sealed it with an empty net goal in the third, his fifth goal in as many games
The Oilers have now won four straight and six of their last eight, moving two points back of Pacific Division-leading Anaheim with the playoff picture tightening fast
McDavid is now just one point behind Dale Hawerchuk for the third-most points by a player before age 30, with only Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux ahead of him on that list
Without Draisaitl this team keeps finding ways to win. Rogers Place gave Ingram everything he deserved on his birthday.

✈️ Air Canada's CEO Is Out After That English-Only Condolence Video
A week after the backlash and the calls for his resignation, Michael Rousseau is stepping down.
Air Canada announced Monday that CEO Michael Rousseau will retire by the end of the third quarter of 2026, following intense criticism for releasing an English-only condolence video after the fatal LaGuardia Airport collision that killed two pilots including francophone Captain Antoine Forest
Prime Minister Carney called Rousseau's retirement "appropriate," said being a leader carries many responsibilities, and made clear that the next Air Canada CEO must be bilingual
As of Monday the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages had received 2,360 complaints about Rousseau's remarks, and a Senate committee had already moved to summon him to appear before May 1
This story is really about more than one video, it is about what Canadians expect from the leaders of their national institutions.
📵 Three Quarters of Canadians Want Social Media Banned for Kids Under 16
This number is about as lopsided as a poll gets.
A new Angus Reid survey of more than 4,000 Canadians found that 75 per cent support a full ban on social media for anyone under 16, similar to the law already in place in Australia, covering platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube and Threads
More than 90 per cent of respondents said they are concerned about addiction, mental health impacts, online predators, misinformation and cyberbullying, and 61 per cent said they do not believe teenagers are capable of using social media responsibly
There is a catch though, the majority of those who support a full ban also believe parents, not governments, should be primarily responsible for policing it, which the pollster called a "curious juxtaposition"
If you are a parent or a grandparent reading this right now, you probably already have an opinion on this. Drop it in the comments.

Iran's Military Just Threatened Apple, Google, Tesla and 14 Other US Tech Giants
Day 32 of the Iran war and the escalation is moving in a direction nobody expected.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened 17 major American technology companies on Wednesday, including Apple, Microsoft, Google, Meta, IBM, Tesla and Boeing, warning that offices in the region would be targeted for attack starting at 8 PM Tehran time if more Iranian leaders are killed in US or Israeli strikes
Employees near those offices were urged to move away from their workplaces immediately, and residents living near the buildings were told to relocate to safe areas
Meanwhile US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News the US can "see the finish line," saying American forces have largely destroyed Iran's navy and air force and are well ahead of schedule on their military objectives
Oil prices, global markets and Alberta's energy sector are all watching every headline from this conflict. This one just got more complicated.

📸 Spotted in Edmonton — First Signs of Spring
It is officially April in Edmonton. Somewhere out there, spring exists. Probably.
Whether it is a brave crocus poking through the snow, a patio chair someone optimistically dragged outside, or a robin that clearly did not check the forecast before heading north — we want to see it.
Share your best "first signs of spring" photo in the comments below. Bonus points if there is still snow in the background. 🌱❄️
