Good morning, neighbour.
Big day today in Alberta. A court just handed First Nations a major win by quashing the separation referendum petition, the prime minister is flying here Friday with what could be a historic pipeline deal, and if you have anything loose in your backyard, now is a very good time to bring it in. Let us get into it.

Alberta's Separation Petition Just Got Knocked Down, And First Nations Did It
A court ruled Wednesday that Alberta should never have let the separation petition go forward in the first place.
Justice Shaina Leonard found the province failed its duty to consult four First Nations, Athabasca Chipewyan, Blood Tribe, Piikani and Siksika, before the petition was approved
Smith called the ruling "anti-democratic" and plans to appeal
Chief Allan Adam urged her to take the high road and let it stand

🌩️ A Real Storm Is Rolling In, Secure Your Yard Before This Afternoon
Environment Canada is not messing around with today's weather warning for Alberta.
Wind gusts of 80 to 100 km/h are expected across east-central and southeastern Alberta Thursday, with up to 30 mm of rain by Friday
The warning zone runs from just east of Edmonton out to Lloydminster and south toward Medicine Hat
Damage to roofs and fences is likely, anything loose outside should come in now

Carney Is Flying to Alberta Friday, Pipeline Deal in Hand
Sources say Prime Minister Carney is coming to Edmonton Friday to announce a deal with Premier Smith that Albertans have been waiting years for.
The agreement would set Alberta's industrial carbon price at $130 per tonne by 2040 and unlock the long-awaited west coast oil pipeline
It resolves the last major sticking point in the MOU both governments signed in late 2025
Smith called it a matter of "when, not if" just last week, looks like she was right
Watch Friday's issue for the full announcement.

Trump Lands in Beijing for a Summit That Could Move Oil Prices and Trade
President Trump arrived in China Wednesday to meet Xi Jinping face to face for the first time since 2017.
Trade, Taiwan and Iran are all on the table, Trump brought 15 plus CEOs including Musk and Tim Cook, and Boeing aircraft deals are expected
The ceasefire with Iran is in "massive life support" per Trump, getting China to pressure Iran back to talks is one of the biggest asks of the visit
Canadian supply chains are watching closely, with Brent crude still sitting above $107
